Basic Plan

The Basic Plan has ended as of April 1, 2014.

The Basic Plan ended because Wisconsin residents now have new options for purchasing affordable private health insurance through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace, also known as the Exchange.

You may be able to enroll in BadgerCare Plus, or buy private health insurance through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.

  • If your household income is above 100% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), you should contact the new federal Marketplace to buy private health insurance. For a single person in 2014, 100% FPL means you have monthly household income of $972.50. For a family of two, it means you have monthly household income of $1,310.83.
  • The Marketplace offers a variety of health insurance plan options and allows you to choose the one that is best for you and your family. You can apply through the Marketplace at healthcare.gov or by calling 1-800-318-2596.
  • The Marketplace offers help paying for health insurance in the form of advance premium tax credits and cost sharing reductions. You will find out if you are eligible for this help when you apply.
  • If your income is at or below 100% FPL, you may be able to enroll in BadgerCare Plus.  You can apply for BadgerCare Plus online at access.wi.gov, or through your  agency. To find your agency, go to: dhs.wi.gov/forwardhealth/imagency/index.htm.

Note: FPL limits are subject to change. For current amounts, go to: http://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/badgercareplus/fpl.htm.
