PARKERS FARM PRODUCTS RECALLED BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE
HEALTH RISK DUE TO LISTERIA MONOCYTOGENES BACTERIA
MADISON - Parkers Farm, Inc. of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, has recalled
all products sold under the Parkers Farm or Parkers label because of
contamination with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. These products were
distributed nationwide. Contaminated products have been found in
Wisconsin, however no illnesses related to these products have been
reported.
Parkers Farm products identified by the U.S. FDA are listed on the
following web site: http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm197823.htm
Listeria monocytogenes may cause serious or even fatal infections in
young children, frail or elderly people, or others with weakened immune
systems. It can also cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.
In otherwise healthy adults, it may cause short-term signs and symptoms
including high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, nausea, abdominal
pain and diarrhea.
The recall was a result of testing conducted by the State of Wisconsin
and the State of Minnesota, which revealed that some finished products
contained the bacteria.
Consumers who have purchased a recalled product are urged to return it
to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may
contact the company at 1 (800) 869-6685. Any consumers who believe they
may have become ill after eating the products should contact their health
care provider.
For the protection of consumers, Parkers Farm, Inc. has decided to
include all of its products, regardless of date codes, in this recall.
