ACCESS TO MEDICAL RIDE SERVICE FOR MEDICAID ENROLLEES TO INCREASE

LogistiCare to Provide Statewide Service Coordination Beginning July 1st

MADISON—Rides to medical appointments for Medicaid enrollees will be more accessible and services more consistent when the state's contract with LogistiCare goes into effect on July 1, according to Department of Health Services (DHS) officials.

"Whether you are in a rural or urban area, you will be able to count on the same level of service," said Deputy Secretary Kitty Rhoades. "In the past, each county managed services differently. We're now able to offer Medicaid enrollees better ride coordination and service quality, no matter where they live in Wisconsin." Enrollees statewide will have one phone number to call to reserve rides.

The state will also be able to collect statewide service data to prevent fraud and ensure accountability and high service levels.

LogistiCare's driver and vehicle requirements will offer greater safety protections for riders, Rhoades said. The company now employs 87 people at its Wisconsin call center, including Spanish and Hmong speakers.

LogistiCare provides non-emergency transportation services in 38 states. The company currently provides 2.5 million rides a month to more than 9.6 million people, 99.7% of which have been completed year-to-date without complaint.

Non-emergency medical transportation services (NEMT) are provided for Medicaid-covered services, including physician and dental visits, mental health outpatient therapy appointments, physical, occupational or speech therapy, and hospital stays. Rides are provided when a member does not have a vehicle or is financially unable to pay for gas, and does not have friends or family who can provide a ride. Friends and family who do provide rides will continue to be reimbursed for mileage.
