BAYFIELD COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT PASSES REVIEW BY STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS

MADISON—Dr. Henry Anderson, State Health Officer, today announced that the Bayfield County Health Department has successfully passed the state’s health department review. As a result, the Bayfield County Health Department will increase their status to the highest designation of Level III.

A team from the Wisconsin Division of Public Health conducted an on-site review. "The hard-working staff of the Bayfield County Health Department help make their community a healthier and safer place to live," said Anderson. "Their department has an actively engaged and supportive Board of Health, and does an excellent job of providing comprehensive environmental health services as well as a broad array of programs to protect residents from illness and injury and promote wellness."

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services is required to formally review the operations of all 92 Wisconsin local health departments at the county or municipality level at least every five years. The review establishes the health department as a level I, II or III agency. A level I agency meets the minimum requirements and a level III agency meets the maximum requirements established for a local health department.

The Bayfield County Health Department provides services important to the community, such as:

  • services to families including newborn home visiting, WIC, oral health and PNCC

  • environmental services including facility licensing, lead, water and radon testing

  • wellness education and support on issues of tobacco, alcohol abuse, physical activity
