"Orchard Trio," Photograph, Jim Stewart
Friend of Gene Hill, DHS Employee
Was on Display:
June - August 2011
My name is Jim Stewart, son of a salt miner and an elementary school
teacher. I arrived in Wisconsin 33 years ago from western New York's
Genesee Valley and
immediately fell in love with Wisconsin's natural areas.
For many years I believed along with Jean Henri Fabre and Wisconsin's
Aldo Leopold, that beauty and perception "grow at home as well as
abroad." Now, with the luxury of and shortness of time that comes
with age, I am able to play, camera in hand, in the great Wisconsin
outdoors, particularly in the small little known natural areas that dot
Dane and Iowa County - jewels that provide sustenance to diverse birds,
wildflowers and other wildlife.
My interest is to use my photography as a means to better see by asking
over and over two questions posed by Rachel Carson in her book The Sense of
"What if I had never seen this before?"
"What if I knew I would never see it again?"
