Basic Plan

The BadgerCare Plus Basic plan is limited benefit health care plan for individuals on the Core Plan Wait List.

As of March 19, 2011, the Department of Health Services will no longer be signing up new members in the BadgerCare Plus Basic Plan. However, the Basic Plan will continue to serve those already enrolled.

Under state law, Basic premiums have to support the cost of the program. Those costs have been much higher than planned. Because of this, Basic monthly premiums will be increasing to $325 starting with the payment due October 5 for November 2011 coverage. 

Other coverage and programs include: 

• Individual plans in the private market
• State Health Insurance Risk-Sharing Plan (HIRSP)
• Federal Temporary High Risk Insurance Pool. To be in the federal high risk pool, you must be uninsured for six months
• Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA)
• Health Coverage Tax Credit
