Topics in the PRAMS survey include:

- Prenatal care
- Smoking and alcohol use prior to and during pregnancy
- Pregnancy-related violence
- Stressful events during pregnancy
- Health insurance coverage
- Postpartum depression
Additionally, Wisconsin (with CDC approval) added questions on the following topics:
- Emotional effects of being treated differently because of race
- Oral health
- Breastfeeding
- Co-sleeping
- Home visiting
- Neighborhood safety
- Social support
