The training is hosted by the Office for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The links are available for your viewing.   

The morning session is “Older Adults and Learning Styles” presented by Jeff Nylander, MS. Learning objectives include:

- Identify and begin to understand the unique learning styles of older adults.
- Identify strategies for investigation into the learning styles of older adults.
- Design strategies to improve cognitive processing and problem solving techniques among older adults.
- Identify and explain the relationship between sensory integration and successful learning in older adults.
- Construct a plan of assessment to determine how to measure success and when to move on to other learning topics.

The afternoon session is “Depression and Coping with Multiple Losses” presented by Suzanna Waters Castillo, PhD, MSSW.

Via the seminar, participants will be able to:  

    - List at least four factors that contribute to late life loss
- List at least four factors that contribute to late life depression.
- Identify the key risk factors for late life suicide.
- Discuss the two pathways that contribute to depression for persons with sensory loss.
- Know the distinction between late life depressive symptoms and a depressive disorder.
- Value the role that antidepressants can play in effective treatment of late life depression.
- Name the three primary forms of psychotherapy that are effective for treating late life depression.
