Expedited Partner Therapy

2009 Wisconsin Act 280 for expedited partner therapy (EPT) became effective May 26, 2010. This legislation explicitly allows medical providers to prescribe, dispense, or furnish medication for a patient’s partner if diagnosed with trichomoniasis, gonorrhea, or Chlamydia trachomatis infections without a medical evaluation of the partner. This alternative sexually transmitted disease (STD) partner management strategy is called expedited partner therapy (EPT) and is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to prevent persistent or re-current infection when other management strategies are impractical or unsuccessful.

An EPT Treatment Information Sheet, should be distributed to the original patient by clinicians providing an EPT prescription and/or EPT medication. DHS EPT Treatment Information Sheets are available for treatment of: Chlamydia trachomatis infection (PDF, 37 KB), gonorrhea (PDF, 37 KB) and trichomoniasis (PDF, 37 KB).   Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for Pharmacists (Exit DHS)
