Communication Therapy at Central Wisconsin Center

Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) is one of three residential care and treatment facilities operated by the Department of Health Services.  CWC has been providing quality service for people with intellectual disabilities and complex care needs since 1959.

CWC also supports individuals living in the community through three short term care programs.  These programs offer assessment, evaluation, and treatment.

Short Term Services

All individuals supported in our short term programs must have a diagnosis of intellectual disability.  Each of the short term programs focuses on serving individuals with particular needs.

• The Medical Short Term Care Unit (MSTCU) supports children and adults with medical and physical disabilities.
• The Developmental Evaluation Clinic (DEC) supports children and adults with regression in skills or memory or mild behavioral concerns.
• The Short Term Assessment Program (STAP) supports children and adolescents with significant behavioral challenges.

Residential Services

More than 200 people live in the residential program at CWC.  Over 800 staff members attend to the complex medical needs of the people who live here, including physicians, nurses, nurse's aides, therapists, social workers, nutritionists psychologists, and more.

We are not currently accepting new individuals to be supported in this program.  This is required by the ICF-MR Restructuring Initiative of May 2005.
