Re: Appointment of the Director for the Bureau of Community Mental Health
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Chris Hendrickson to the position of the
Director of the Bureau of Community Mental Health.
Chris has extensive experience in state and county human service systems. His
experience ranges from directing the Unified Services Board of Vernon County to working in
the Milwaukee Regional Office of the Division of Community services, coordinating youth
aids and working for the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Chris has worked in the mental health field since 1991, and has served as the Interim
Director of the Bureau of Community Mental Health for over a year. Chris was a key staff
member if developing the recommendations to redesign Wisconsin’ mental health
services by the Blue Ribbon Commission on Mental Health appointed by Governor Tommy
Thompson. His in-depth knowledge and understanding of the vision for the future of
Wisconsin mental health services and his solid program implementation and leadership
skills are critical as we implement the report recommendations in the upcoming years,
including the development of the mental health/AODA managed care demonstrations.
Chris is well respected by his colleagues at the Department, by counties and providers.
Chris’ strong commitment to involving consumers and family members in decisions
regarding mental health service policy has earned him the respect of the consumer and
family organizations as well.
Chris started in his new position on January 17, 1999. Please join me in welcoming
Chris to this important and exciting position!
