Re: Information On The Hazards Posed By Extreme Heat
Every year, the State of Wisconsin experiences a series of periods in
which the temperature and humidity produce a heat index which could be
harmful to human health. This risk can be reduced, however, by preparing
for it. In order to bring this potential health risk to everyone’s
attention, Governor Scott McCallum is proclaiming June 20, 2002 as
Wisconsin’s Heat Awareness Day. The Department of Health and Family
Services, the National Weather Service, and Wisconsin Emergency Management
will use this day to stress the threat posed by excessive heat conditions
and the precautions to prevent these deaths and illnesses.
Please take time to review this packet of information and share it with
your staff and contract agency, to make sure that our service providers
take precautionary steps to protect the public and those at risk in the
event of an excessive heat wave.
Please help us by supporting June 20th as Heat Awareness Day
and disseminating this information. Thank you.
