Wisconsin
Hazardous Substances Emergency Events Surveillance (HSEES)
HSEES, maintained by the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry
(ATSDR) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is a state-based surveillance system with the goal of tracking and
preventing the adverse public health consequences associated with the
uncontrolled or illegal release of hazardous substances. The 15
participating state health departments actively collect data on releases
from many different sources and enter it into a secure web-deployed data
entry system. Information contained in the System includes, but is not
limited to, event date, event city, event county, names and quantities of
released substances, number of victims, types of injuries, and numbers of
evacuations and evacuees.
NOTE: Effective January 1, 2010, the WI HSEES Program will be
operating under a new name as the Wisconsin National Toxic Substance
Incidents Program (NTSIP). We invite you to access the new WI NTSIP
web page by utilizing the following link:
WI NTSIP website
Beginning with 2010 data, WI NTSIP will collect and assemble spills
data featuring the same degree of detail as available in the WI HSEES
Program from 1993 through 2009. Throughout 2010, the WI HSEES web site
will be brought up to date to include 2009 spills data, at the same time
the WI NTSIP web site will be under development.
