Health Insurance:  Checkup on Doctor and Hospital Choice

Here are some questions to think about:
  • Are you happy with your current doctors? Call their offices to find out which plans they are in. You may be able to choose a plan that will allow you to keep seeing those doctors without paying extra.
  • Do you think you will need to see a specialist? Call the plan to get a list of all of their providers, including specialists, and find out whether you will need referrals to see specialists.
  • Is going to a certain hospital important to you? The hospital you go to often depends on the plan you are in and where your doctor has privileges. Find out from the plans and the doctors you are considering what hospitals you would be able to use.
