Sexual Violence Prevention Program

What is the Department of Health Services doing?

  • In partnership with Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Inc. (WCASA) (exit DHS), the program distributes federal funds, and monitors and evaluates statewide sexual assault prevention activities. 
  • Sexual assault victims services programs statewide are supported through these funds, through training of professionals, operation of hotlines, counseling, and referral.
  • Collaborates with partners statewide to increase public awareness and knowledge of sexual violence and its consequences to support local communities in the creation of social change through education and awareness activities. 
  • Developed a statewide multi-faceted public awareness campaign called "Real Men Respect" (Wisconsin Sexual Assault Awareness Campaign
  • Assures outreach to communities (rural, racial/ethnic minority, sexual preference, gender, age) that may be at higher risk for sexual violence or who may not have access to information or services related to sexual violence.
  • In collaboration with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and statewide partners, initiated a planning process to prevent the first time victimization and perpetration of sexual violence.
