Current Grants and Projects

The Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Program provides grants to local groups when funds are available.  The funds are used to help implement the Wisconsin Nutrition and Physical Activity State Plan to accomplish the overall goal of preventing obesity and chronic disease.

Educational and environmental support to promote breastfeeding exclusivity and duration; implementing a support group for women; promoting breastfeeding as a cultural norm.

Monroe On the Go – Phase 2

School Wellness

Multi-level (policy, organizational and individual) nutrition intervention for children and adolescents in Monroe County schools; specifically focused on children from low income families.

Northwoods Breastfeeding Coalition

Breastfeeding; Healthcare

Increasing breastfeeding initiation, duration and exclusivity through development and implementation of evidence-based breastfeeding policies in health care settings.

Let’s Move! Platteville

Active Community Environments

Support the Platteville Safe Routes to School Plan; expanding the Frieker Program technology and promotion; build community-wide education and encouragement for walking and biking.

Portage County CAN Well Workplace, Well County Initiative

Worksite Wellness

Enacting a worksite wellness initiative to bring local, state and national tools to Portage County worksites; showcase environmental and policy changes nade by local worksites and evidence based approaches to worksite wellness.

Healthy Eating Active Living (HEAL) in Marathon County

Food Environment; Active Community Environments

Increasing physical activity and consumption of fruits and vegetables through social marketing planning approach; policy maker assessment and education; earned media; mobilizing community members for change.

Kenosha Food for Learning Project

School Wellness

Piloting two programs to engage children in growing and harvesting fruits and vegetables; engaging educators, youth mentors, policy makers, producers and advocates for policy change to sustain efforts.
