Community Resource: Breastfeeding Interventions

Listed below are information and references to address physical activity and nutrition in specific sites or settings within the community setting.

Breastfeeding is one of the most important contributors to infant health. Breastfeeding provides a range of benefits for the infant’s growth, immunity, and development. In addition, breastfeeding improves maternal health and contributes economic benefits to the family, health care system, and workplace.

Despite the many benefits of breastfeeding, the rates of breastfeeding in the United States are low, especially at 6 months postpartum.  Creating a breastfeeding friendly environment in many settings will influence breastfeeding rates.

For additional general information about breastfeeding, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.
