Webcast and Training
Webinar 1: Introduction to Health Impact Assessment
The
Introduction to Health Impact Assessment (Webcast,
help), held May 18, 2010, was intended for public health
professionals, community planners, partners, and local leaders involved in
health, social and economic decision making. The Introduction to HIA webcast
will define Health Impact Assessment (HIA) and provide an overview of the
tool's benefit in recognizing the health impacts of decisions about built
environments and land use planning. The objectives for the presentation are
for participants to gain a better understanding of the purpose of HIA, the
steps involved in the framework, review examples of completed and potential
HIA projects, and discuss resources available to learn more about HIA.
Webinar 2: HIA Step 1 Screening
HIA
Step 1 Screening (Webcast,
help), held June 2, 2010, is used to assess a defined project,
plan or policy with the purpose to inform decision-makers before they make a
decision. The screening process is used to establish the value of HIA,
assess feasibility, understand timing, evaluate decision openness, be
inclusive, and avoid redundancy. Essential tasks in screening include:
define the decision and its alternatives, decide who will be involved,
determine if potential partners are ready to work on a HIA, evaluate the
project based on screening criteria, make a decision about whether to
conduct a HIA, and notify stakeholders of your decision.
(approximately 55 minutes)
Webinar 3: Putting HIA Into Action
Putting
HIA Into Action (Webcast,
help), held June 23, 2010, provides an overview of the HIA
framework and presents Wisconsin-specific tools, resources and HIA
opportunities. This presentation includes information about identifying
intervention points for HIA and describes two rapid HIA projects taking
place in Wisconsin.
