Risk of Lead Poisoning by Income Status
in Wisconsin
National data indicates that children from low-income families are at greater risk for lead
poisoning. In Wisconsin 92% of the children identified with
lead poisoning in 2006 were enrolled in the Medicaid Program or the Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants
and Children (WIC) Program. Children who were enrolled in either of these programs were
nearly five times more likely to be lead poisoned than those not
enrolled in either program.
