Elimination Plan Efforts

Implementing and evaluating the Elimination Plan is actively ongoing and as a result many efforts have been established or developed. See the current and past efforts listed below by year that are some of the products of the efforts of the subcommittees.

Current Efforts

The first issue of the kids unLEADed e-newsletter for 2013 was distributed by Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin in February. This issue focuses exclusively on education with respect to lead poisoning, including a link to a Mother Jones magazine article linking lead and crime.

 

2012 Efforts

The kids unLEADed e-newsletter was issued three times in 2012, distributed by Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin. This issue focuses on federal policy changes, legislative and program updates and advocacy issues such as a link to a project in progress, a documentary film on childhood lead poisoning.

2011 Efforts

This is a sample Blood Lead Testing Report received by Medicaid health care providers in Wisconsin.

Annually, the Medicaid Provider Blood Lead Testing Report is sent to Wisconsin health care providers who provide medical care to children enrolled in the Medicaid program. The individualized report summarizes the provider's  blood lead testing data for children under age 6. 

 

 

 

The kids unLEADed e-newsletter issues for 2011 were distributed by Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin.

School nurses now have Lead poisoning prevention resources available on Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction website.

2010 Efforts

In April 2010, the Wisconsin Legislature passed Senate Joint Resolution 65 which required the Elimination Plan Implementation and Oversight Committee to submit a report on the costs borne by the educational and criminal justice systems attributable to lead poisoning and methods to address lead paint hazards in housing. The report, delivered to the Wisconsin Legislature on December 30, 2010, is entitled Response to 2009 Senate Joint Resolution 65. (PDF, 189 KB)

Medicaid Providers Blood Lead Testing Performance Data (PDF, 494 KB)  Data was presented at the Wisconsin Implementation and Oversight Committee to Eliminate Lead Poisoning on health care provider blood lead testing performance, lead hazard reduction activity and factors affecting the decrease in children's blood lead levels.

Childhood Lead Poisoning in Wisconsin 2010. (PDF, 141 KB) This paper was developed to provide the most current research about the effects of lead poisoning on children and how it continues to cause damage to their health and well-being throughout their lifespan. The report also discusses efforts to address lead poisoning at the state, federal and international level.

2009 Efforts

The kids unLEADed e-newsletter was launched in February 2009 by Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin. The e-newsletter was distributed again in June and October.

 

This is a picture of the IOC Priority Public Policy Recommendations for Wisconsin 2008-2010 document.

 

IOC Policy Priorities (Exit DHS). This document is intended to provide public policy leaders with the policy priorities developed by the IOC: (1) early intervention for new cases of lead poisoning, (2) making older homes lead-safe and (3) establishing protective public policy and infrastructure to protect all children.

2008 Efforts

UW-Madison LaFollette students present housing trust fund report to Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake. Housing Trust Funds and Wisconsin: Funding for Lead Hazard Control (PDF, 189 KB) This report summarizes an analysis of housing trust funds as a way to finance housing rehabilitation, conducted by students with the UW-Madison LaFollette School of Public Affairs.

 

This is the cover of the Legacy of Lead Report. Legacy of Lead: Report on Childhood Lead Poisoning in Wisconsin 2008 Released July 2008 by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. This compelling report presents in-depth information about the effects, costs and extent of lead poisoning in Wisconsin's children and how lead poisoning can be prevented.

Dominican Center Neighborhood Project (PDF, 24 KB) This newspaper article describes a neighborhood project that focuses on housing and neighborhood stabilization...new homeowners in a small stretch of the city show what a small group with heart and initiative can do for their neighborhood: They can make it their own.

Community Partnership Meeting Toolkit (PDF, 163 KB) This toolkit contains tips and items to consider when planning a meeting to bring together health, housing and family serving agencies to discuss ways to create lead-safe housing. Included in the Toolkit: Appendix of Resource Materials are sample letters, flyers, brochures--tools to readily prepare for the meeting.
