Winnebago Mental Health Institute - Waterwood School

Purpose Statement 2012-2013 Calendar Enrollment Process Special Education Services

Welcome to the webpages for Waterwood School. Waterwood School is a K-12 school serving the patients of Winnebago Mental Health Institute. Youth who are admitted as patients and have an expectation of remaining in the hospital for a period of time are enrolled in the school. Typically, youth patients with a legal status of “14 day”, “Commitment”, “Settlement Agreement” and “Voluntary” are enrolled and attend school.

In addition, the school serves “Day School” students. These youth are not hospital patients but rather are residents of area community school districts. “Day school” students are served on a tuition basis.

Waterwood professional staff members are properly trained and licensed as teachers in Wisconsin. All are accomplished managers of youth who possess unique difficulties with social behaviors and/or extraordinary learning challenges. Because the school serves youth from throughout Wisconsin, it is diverse both in culture and learning need.

The school operates Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; 8:00 to 2:00 for day school students. It is open forty-nine weeks of the calendar year.
