Objective
The Motivation Assessment Program Unit provides a safe and therapeutic setting for patients who either need to adjust to the more demanding treatment requirements of other programs, or who have refused to participate in treatment. We encourage positive, appropriate interactions and provide opportunities for patients to engage in activities which promote personal growth.
Unit
Description
Referrals to the on unit treatment program are made through a formal assessment process by the patient's treatment team. The patients may or may not elect to enter the treatment program. Those who participate are objectively rated on their level of treatment participation and given an opportunity to demonstrate a desire to move forward in the SVP treatment programming.
The program is designed to last a minimum of 6 months. The first three months the patient is given individual assignments to complete for assessment. Once the assignments are satisfactorily completed and the patient is noted to have participated appropriately, the patient enters the Moral Reconation Therapy program.
Patients who elect not to engage in treatment programming are subject to the basic level system of the unit.
General activities including recreation, crafts, and educational programs are provided.
The Psychiatric Care Technicians assigned to the unit play a key role in maintaining a climate that encourages good behavior and reinforces appropriate choices. In addition to the PCTs, the Recreation Therapist, Recreation Leaders, Teachers, Psychiatrists, and nursing staff join with the Psychologist, Social Worker, PCS, and IUS in the planning process for providing care to the SVP patients.
