SECRETARY HAYDEN MEETS WITH EAU CLAIRE COUNTY ADVOCATES AND COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS

Discusses Organizations' Strategy to Help Eau Claire Children and Families Sign Up for BadgerCare Plus

MADISON - Secretary Kevin R. Hayden today met with Eau Claire County advocates and community-based organizations to discuss BadgerCare Plus. They specifically discussed the organizations' strategy for helping uninsured Eau Claire County kids and families get access to comprehensive health care through BadgerCare Plus. Senator Kathleen Vinehout and Representative Jeff Smith also participated in the discussion.

"Providing access to quality, affordable health care for all kids is achievable with BadgerCare Plus," said Secretary Kevin R. Hayden. "BadgerCare Plus is simple and provides health care coverage that our children deserve at a price families can afford. I look forward to working with the Eau Claire City-County Health Department and members of the Hunger Coalition of Eau Claire County as they establish additional outreach stations all over Eau Claire County where families can go to learn more about BadgerCare Plus and sign up for the program."

BadgerCare Plus offers health coverage to every uninsured child in Wisconsin by streamlining Medicaid, BadgerCare and Healthy Start into one comprehensive program. Regardless of a family's income, BadgerCare Plus allows every uninsured Wisconsin family access to affordable, comprehensive health care coverage for their kids. Low income families will be able to enroll their children into BadgerCare Plus at no charge, while higher earning families will be able to buy into the program at a reasonable cost based upon income.

On January 16, 2008, Eau Claire City-County Health Department received a $19,080 BadgerCare Plus mini grant to help sign kids up for BadgerCare Plus. It is one of 32 organizations that received funding to share information about the program's benefits and provide direct, confidential application assistance. Eau Claire City-County Health Department will be working with other community-based organizations in the county to help families sign up for BadgerCare Plus.

Eau Claire County families can go to the following two community-based organizations to get help signing up for BadgerCare Plus:
