MANITOWOC COUNTY ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE FOR FLOOD VICTIMS

Residents in Manitowoc County Must Apply From July 3 to July 14

MADISON - Today, Secretary Karen Timberlake announced the expansion of the federal emergency food assistance program for eligible flood victims residing in Manitowoc County with an application window of July 3 to July 14 (closed July 4).

“We encourage those impacted by the floods to apply for federal emergency food assistance services,” said Secretary Timberlake. “This is a difficult time for many and even basic food assistance can make a difference in easing the burden during this time of recovery.”

The USDA-Food and Nutrition Service provides a one-time emergency benefit for those impacted by the flood. Residents must sign up for Disaster FoodShare benefits during the allotted timeframe in order to receive the federal emergency food assistance, which is administered by the affected counties.

According to federal guidelines, to receive emergency food assistance, flood victims must:

  • Be a resident of the county affected. Residents that are temporarily staying or living in a different county need to apply face-to-face in one of the affected counties: Adams, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Manitowoc, Marquette, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha or Winnebago County.
  • Bring materials that can verify their identity, income eligibility and residency, if possible
  • Sign an affidavit stating they were impacted by flood.
  • Apply for the emergency one-time benefit within the seven day window.

The amount of federal food assistance a resident in an affected county may be eligible for varies depending on family size. A family of three may be able to receive as much as $426 in Disaster FoodShare benefits if their home, belongings or place of employment was damaged or destroyed; if they have disaster-related expenses; or if they have lost income, food or money as a result of the floods and severe weather. Once a person qualifies for benefits, they will receive a Wisconsin QUEST debit card that can be used at any grocery store that accepts the QUEST card.
