SECRETARY TIMBERLAKE ANNOUNCES MARK THOMAS AS NEW
DEPUTY SECRETARY
MADISON - Today, Department of Health Services Secretary Karen
Timberlake announced the appointment of Mark Thomas as Deputy Secretary.
Thomas begins his new role September 15, 2008.
"I am very pleased that Mark Thomas will be joining the Department
of Health Services," said Secretary Timberlake. "Mark brings
extensive management experience in a variety of settings, and a passion
for the work of this department and the people we serve. Mark's experience
and his commitment to delivering the best in health and human services
programs will be tremendous assets to the Department."
"I am very excited to be joining the team," Thomas said.
"I look forward to working with knowledgeable professionals who are
dedicated to providing high quality services to our citizens each and
everyday. It will be my honor to serve the residents of the State of
Wisconsin."
Thomas has most recently served as the Executive Director of Camp
Whitcomb/Mason, owned and operated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of
Greater Milwaukee. Thomas previously served as chief operating officer of
Family House, a central-Milwaukee residential facility serving individuals
55 and older and people with disabilities.
Prior to that, Thomas spent 28 years with the Milwaukee Journal
Sentinel including 13 years in management roles. Thomas served as Senior
Vice President of Circulation where he provided leadership to the
distribution, operations and marketing departments and as Vice President
of Circulation Marketing. In these positions, he was a member of the
executive committee that planned and executed the merger of the Milwaukee
Journal and Milwaukee Sentinel as well as worked to establish delivery
partnerships with The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and key magazine
publishers, generating over $2 million in new revenue.
Mark has been recognized as one of Presstime Magazine's "20 Under
40" and received the Milwaukee Times "Black Excellence"
Award in 1997.
Thomas replaces the role previously filled by Karen Timberlake, who was
appointed as Secretary in April 2008.
