KENNETH MUNSON APPOINTED DEPUTY SECRETARY

MADISON—Today, Department of Health Services Secretary Karen Timberlake announced that Kenneth Munson will serve as Deputy Secretary, effective June 21, 2010. Munson previously served as Deputy Secretary of the Department in 2003 and 2004.

"I am pleased that Kenneth Munson will be returning to the Department of Health Services," said Secretary Timberlake. "Kenneth is an accomplished senior executive whose background and experience with this Department will be a great asset to us as we work to implement many high priority projects."

Munson has most recently served as President and CEO of the Children's Service Society of Wisconsin, leading the state's largest private, not-for profit provider of child welfare services. There he managed more than 80 programs including out-of-home care, mental health, education and prevention programming that served 85,000 children and adults annually.

Prior to his previous service at the Department, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the Bradley Technology and Trade School in Milwaukee, where he coordinated the planning and construction of an innovative $50 million technology school and directed school operations after it opened in November 2002. He has also served as Deputy Director of the City of Milwaukee's Department of Administration and Executive Director of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission.

A Milwaukee native, Mr. Munson holds a law degree from UW-Madison and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from UW-Milwaukee. His community volunteer activities include serving on the Wisconsin CASA Board of Directors, serving as Commissioner of the Milwaukee Redevelopment Authority, serving on the UW Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Education Board of Visitors and work with the Wisconsin AIDS Fund.

Munson will replace Mark Thomas who has served as Deputy Secretary since September 2008.
