Note: Health Care Data Report, 2000

The total number of hospitalizations (inpatient discharges) reported each year will differ slightly between the WITHIN query system and the Health Care Data Report. The WITHIN query system includes data from all hospitalizations, including those with extreme values for length of stay (over 999 days). WITHIN for the health data specialist permits users to include or exclude these outliers.

In the Health Care Data Report, records with lengths of stay over 999 days are excluded; thus the total number of hospitalizations reported in that publication for any given year will be slightly lower than the number in the WITHIN database for that year.

Errata: The Health Care Data Report for 2000 included 41 inpatient records that should not have been included (because they were duplicative or otherwise in error). In the Summary Data  (page 3), the first sentence should read: "In 2000, Wisconsin hospitals reported 635,133 inpatient hospitalizations." In Table 1 (page 12), the number of hospitalizations in Wisconsin for 2000 should read 635,133 (not 635,174).

The 2000 report also included one ambulatory surgery record that should not have been included. The total number of ambulatory surgeries should read 632,010 (not 632,011). In the Summary Data (page 4), under "Ambulatory Surgery Data," the first bullet's second sentence should read: "Data for 632,010 cases were collected: 543,627 from hospitals and 88,383 from FASCs." On page 331, second paragraph, the second sentence should read: "They collected data on 632,010 patients (543,627 at hospitals and 88,383 at FASCs)." In Table 31 (page 341), the statewide total number of cases should be 632,010.
