The total number of hospitalizations (inpatient discharges) reported each year will
differ slightly between
the WITHIN query system and the Health Care Data Report. The WITHIN query system includes
data from all hospitalizations, including those with extreme values for length of stay (over 999 days).
WITHIN for the health data specialist permits users to include or exclude these outliers.
In the Health Care Data Report, records with lengths of stay over 999 days are
excluded; thus the total number of hospitalizations reported in that publication for any given year will be
slightly lower than the number in the WITHIN database for that year.
