What Is Happening In Wisconsin Related To Public Health Accreditation

Key partners are working together to support accreditation efforts in Wisconsin including:

Division of Public Health received funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the fall of 2010 to support state, local, and tribal systems to move toward accreditation. For more information on training, technical assistance, and mini-grants related to the CDC Wisconsin Public Health Performance Improvement grant, contact Dave Pluymers at david.pluymers@dhs.wisconsin.gov or (608) 266-2757.

Healthiest Wisconsin 2020, (HW2020), the state health plan, identifies an infrastructure focus area that addresses public health capacity and quality. One of the state objectives is: By 2020, all Wisconsin health departments will be accredited using an established standard. More information on this focus area is available on the HW2020 website.

Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) has identified public health accreditation and quality improvement as a strategic priority for local health departments. More information on these efforts is available on the WALHDAB website.

Institute for Wisconsin Health, Inc. has provided accreditation preparation and quality improvement leadership and assistance since 2008.  The Institute's website features a Public Health Quality blog focused on building a community of practice around accreditation and quality. The blog features conversation, key links and resources that encourage innovation and connection among local, Tribal and state health department partners. Public Health Accreditation Wisconsin (PHAW) website is a private and secured network accessible only to Wisconsin health departments and Tribal health departments offering accreditation materials/examples to both share and access including resources, tools, documents, and processes that may provide a starting point for the development of locally required documentation established by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB).
