Alliance for Recovery Advocates (AFRA) ProjectRFP #FHG1673-DMHSAS-SMTitle: Alliance for Recovery Advocates (AFRA) Project Short title: AFRA Grant Issued by: Proposal Due Date & Time: March 26, 2010 4:00 PM CST Late Proposals Will Be Rejected The Alliance for Recovery Advocates (AFRA) project is a statewide, consumer-driven, grassroots advocacy and support organization that includes people in the recovery community and allies of people in long term recovery. Its mission is to become a face and voice for recovery and advocate for positive changes by reducing stigma that affect persons seeking treatment for active addiction and equal rights to medical care, education, employment, and to organize those who desire to become a face and voice of recovery. The AFRA project would expand the capacity of the recovery community and strengthen advocacy efforts by a) creating a statewide advocacy and advisory board called the Alliance for Recovery Advocates that would bring together men and women group members of diverse backgrounds, family members, supporters, significant others and allies, b) creating a self-sustaining, statewide consumer driven organization, and c) establishing and maintaining a strong affiliation with the National Faces & Voices of Recovery organization. The Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services invites eligible organizations to submit proposals to create and deliver statewide recovery community organizing services. It is expected that a broad range of services will be made available to build and mobilize strong grassroots recovery organizations across the state and establish the means to communicate to these communities of recovery; educate professionals, policy makers and the general public about recovery-related matters; and build a better understanding of recovery from substance use disorders.
