Virtual PACE - An Innovative Demonstration Project for Dual Medicaid/Medicare Members

Wisconsin is one of fifteen states that received a demonstration grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to develop a care coordination and funding model to integrate the care of persons dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. Awarded by the Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office ("Office of the Duals"), Wisconsin's demonstration project was called Virtual PACE.

What's New

DHS submitted a revised draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to CMS on August 12, 2013. DHS received a response in November indicating that major revisions to Wisconsin’s Integrated Demonstration program proposal would be required before CMS would approve it. Further concessions from the proposed MOU would detract from Wisconsin’s objectives. Therefore, DHS will conclude its participation in the Demonstration to Integrate Care for Dual Eligible Individuals, as communicated to CMS in the December DHS response.

DHS believes the Medicare data acquisition and analysis activities have been a source of significant opportunities arising from our planning work with CMS, and will continue to work with the Medicare Medicaid Coordination Office to expand use of the data beyond demonstration planning. This decision is a different means to achieving our shared vision of improved care and services for people.
