Update on 2010 Reporting – (revised 8/31/2010)

To all Wisconsin reporting facilities:

The new state reporting requirements, associated training webcasts, reporting form and WCRS Code Manual are now available from WCRS. These requirements are effective immediately and must be incorporated to report 2010 diagnoses to the State.

Facilities still reporting all 2009 cases or earlier may still use the previous reporting form, AbstractPlus software and WCRS Code Manual. If you are ready to report 2010 cases and come across occasional cases from earlier years that need to be reported, use the new reporting requirements, even for these earlier diagnoses.

Available for immediate download on this website are: WCRS Code Manual, Third Edition; WCRS Reporting Form; WCRS Reporting Form "Cheat Sheet," and two required webcasts on updates for 2010 reporting and collaborative staging for 2010 cases.

The Version 3 AbstractPlus data entry software is being modified to meet Wisconsin-specific requirements and will be ready for distribution later this fall. Facilities that currently use AbstractPlus may, until the update is available, report 2010 cases on the new paper reporting form. You cannot use the current AbstractPlus software to abstract 2010 cases. Once the software is distributed, electronic reporting can resume. A file with your reported paper cases will be sent to you for import into your new system. Version 3 AbstractPlus will be released with the accompanying user manual and a webcast tutorial.

Facilities that have different software vendor systems which have already converted to Version12 NAACCR layout may begin submitting cases regularly (all diagnosis years) to WCRS in the new format.

State Reporting Requirements Webcasts

Effective August 2010, there are changes to Wisconsin's cancer reporting requirements. These changes include collaborative staging, Version 2 (new and updated data items), date formats and flags, class of case, etc. WCRS has prepared two webcasts that discuss the required changes for state reporting. Please note: Two changes to the reporting requirements were made by CDC after our webcasts were recorded. Make sure to download the Requirements Update document (available below with the State-Required 2010 Updates webcast) to get this additional information not in the webcast.

The Collaborative Staging for State Reporting webcast is required for ALL staff responsible for reporting cases to WCRS. Included in this webcast:

  1. The required collaborative staging data items that must be reported with each cancer case, beginning with cases diagnosed in 2010.
  2. The basics of Collaborative Staging and also the more complex aspects of the new requirements.

The webcast includes examples and case scenarios to help cancer reporters begin to understand how to complete these collaborative staging data items (including a melanoma case designed to assist clinic reporting from dermatology offices).

The State-Required 2010 Updates/Changes in Reporting Data webcast is required for ALL staff responsible for reporting cases to WCRS. Included in this webcast:

  1. New data items for 2010 reporting.
  2. Changes to existing data items (e.g., date formats and flags, metastatic disease fields, class of case, etc.).
  3. Helpful information on where to find the hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasm rules for 2010 cases.
  4. New texting requirements.

Collaborative Stage Version 2 (CSv2) for Melanoma, Genitourinary and Breast Cancer

Starting with cancer cases diagnosed in 2010, CSv2 will be the required staging schema for cancer reporting. There are significant and numerous changes from Version 1 to Version 2 on cancer cases. All cancer reporters working in American College of Surgeons (ACoS) facilities (or in non-ACoS facilities that follow ACoS guidelines) need to view this training (or have attended an on-site presentation) to successfully complete the Collaborative Staging for these cases.
