Importance of Reporting Patient Race and Ethnicity to WCRS

WCRS and all state cancer registries in the National Program of Cancer Registries ask health care providers to report patient race and ethnicity information. Detailed race and ethnicity information on cancer patients can help improve clinical care, as well as help effectively target cancer prevention and early detection programs. Abstract Plus Version 3.1

The updated reporting software, Abstract Plus Version 3.1, and its associated training webcast are available from WCRS.  This software is required to report 2010 and 2011 diagnoses to the State for all facilities not using a vendor-purchased software system.  If you have been reporting cases on paper, please begin the process to switch to Version 3.1 and report electronically, to meet Wisconsin's electronic reporting requirement. 

Facilities with large backlogs of 2009 or earlier cases may still use the previous Abstract Plus Version 2 software to complete the backlog.  If you are reporting 2010 cases and come across occasional cases from earlier years that need to be reported, use Version 3.1, even for these earlier diagnoses.  

The software and training webcast are available for immediate download. Also available for download are the updated WCRS Abstract Code Manual, the reporting form for 2011 cases, the "cheat sheet" for 2011 cases, and the 2011 Required Fields List.
