The 2009 age-adjusted injury-related mortality rate for Wisconsin males was 78.5 deaths per 100,000 male population. The comparable rate for Wisconsin females in 2009 was 36.3 deaths per 100,000 females. Rates for females have increased since 1990, while rates for males have been relatively unchanged.

A major change in the International Classification of Diseases in 1999 was shown to increase the number of deaths attributed to injuries by about 3% nationally (see Trend Analysis Caution).
