Healthy Birth Outcomes Initiative
The Department of Health Services is implementing a five-year action plan to eliminate racial and ethnic
disparities in birth outcomes.
Wisconsin Births and Infant Deaths (annual report; PDF format)
This annual report presents information about births that occurred in a given year to Wisconsin residents.
Information from previous years is also presented to show changes over time. Included is information on the number and
rate of live births; demographic characteristics of the mother, such as age, race, marital status, education and number of
previous births; characteristics of pregnancy and delivery, including the trimester that prenatal care began, number of
visits, and whether the mother smoked during pregnancy; and birthweight of the newborn. Also included is information about
infants who died before their first birthday, and fetuses of more than 20 weeks gestation who were stillborn.
Births to Teens in Wisconsin (annual report; PDF format)
This annual report presents data on births to Wisconsin teens in two main sections: "Statewide Information" and
"Local Information." Data files used in the report are: resident birth certificate file, matched infant
birth-death file, fetal death file and the reported induced terminations of pregnancy publication.
