Anticipated Annual Award Amount: Up to $120,000 per year, up to 3 years,, to be distributed among between one and three grantees.

Funded agencies will be responsible for advancing equity in breastfeeding initiation and maintenance through identified strategies.

Grant funding is expressly dependent upon the availability of funds to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) from the Health Resources and Services Administration, Title V Maternal and Child Health Grant. Applicants will be awarded based on available funding, capacity, and ability to meet application criteria. This project period begins January 1, 2023 and ends December 31, 2025. Each contract will have a duration of one calendar year with the possibility of annual renewal for the duration of the project period, contingent on funding availability and performance. Should additional funding become available, award amounts may be altered.
Minimum Expectations

Organizations receiving this award must prioritize equity and actively incorporate community voice into breastfeeding promotion strategies, in addition to implementing one or more of the following activities. Indicate which of these additional activities your agency is applying to implement. Select all that apply:

  • Provide support to all agencies throughout Wisconsin pursuing breastfeeding work with Title V funding, including providing content-area expert consultation and convening quarterly learning community calls
  • Coordinate and cross-promote statewide breastfeeding-related initiatives
  • Work with local and tribal health agencies to increase lactation support in the workplace and early childhood settings.
  • Work with local and tribal health agencies to enhance local community coordination to improve continuity of care by strengthening consistent implementation of prenatal, maternity care, and postpartum practices to support breastfeeding.
  • Support hospital use of quality improvement strategies to align with the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding and/or Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative guidelines.
  • Implement strategies for community engagement and local stakeholder activities, including funding opportunities to support community agencies to advance breastfeeding efforts within specific populations experiencing inequities in breastfeeding (initiation, duration).

Funded projects will help advance the Title V Program’s priorities, and selected applicants will work with the Title V Program to develop an approved budget, budget narrative, and a comprehensive work plan that outlines specific project deliverables.
