County Fact Sheets: DHS 2019-2021 Budget Proposal

We know that each individual county has its own unique population and needs. No two are the same, which is why DHS has devised a budget that tries to reflect the local community. We recognize that some counties have more access needs, some have larger populations eligible for BadgerCare Plus, and some have existing successful programs to build upon.  DHS serves the people of the state of Wisconsin and it is our intention that this budget allocates this funding in the most impactful way—whether you live in Iowa County or Iron County or Waukesha County.

The Medicaid expansion plus the new initiatives will enable us to draw down a total of $1.6 billion in new federal funding. When we combine these new initiatives with all other investments for Department of Health Services programs—from both the state and federal government—the budget provides a total of $2.6 billion in new funding. Of this, $2.4 billion will be invested in Wisconsin communities. Click on your county to see what DHS’s budget proposal will do for your community.
