Risk of Lead Poisoning by Age of Child in Wisconsin

Research indicates that children's blood lead levels tend to be highest between 18 to 36 months of age because of frequent hand-to-mouth behavior and the increase in mobility during their second and third years of life. This mobility makes lead paint dust in the environment more accessible to these children. In Wisconsin the rate of lead poisoning is highest among two year olds, with slightly lower rates among one and three year olds.
