What is Prenatal Care Coordination?

Prenatal Care Coordination is a Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus benefit that helps pregnant women get the support and services they need to have a healthy baby.

Prenatal Care Coordination services include:

  • Help getting the health care you need.
  • Personal support.
  • Information on good eating habits and health practices.
  • Information and help finding needed services in your community.
How do I know if this service is for me?

The care coordinator will help you by asking about your:

  • Current and previous pregnancy.
  • Health history.
  • Relationships.
  • Worries.

If you are eligible, the care coordinator will help you get the services you need. There is no copayment for this service.

Questions that a care coordinator can help you with:
  When should I go to the doctor?  

 

 How will I get to the doctor?  
  What are signs of  labor?  
  How does this work if I am in an HMO?

 

 

 What community services are available to me?
What will my baby need?
Why are Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus doing this?

Pregnancy is a time of change, every woman can use help with:

  • Planning for a healthy pregnancy, birth, and beyond.
  • Getting ready for a new baby.
  • Lifestyle changes.

A care coordinator can help you during these times.

A care coordinator will listen to your concerns and answer your questions. A care coordinator will work with you one on one to provide a personalized, confidential plan of care.

Where can I find a prenatal care coordinator?

Contact one of the following to find a care coordinator near you:

  • Local public health department.
  • Maternal and Child Health Hotline at 1-800-722-2295 (Voice/TTY).
  • Medicaid Member Services at 1-800-362-3002 or TTY 1-800-947-3529 (or 711).
Keep in mind that Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus also pay for other health services such as:
  • Doctor’s visit, including prenatal care and well-child visits.
  • Iron tablets for pregnant women.
  • Prescription drugs, including prenatal vitamins.
  • Hospital care.
  • Lab and X-ray services.
  • Dental services.
  • Mental health and drug treatment services.
  • Family planning supplies and services.

This is not a complete list of everything Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus pays for. If you have questions about the services Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus pay for, ask the care coordinator or call Member Services at 1-800-362-3002 or TTY 1-800-947-3529 (or 711).
