Our Mission

Providing a persistent and continuing focus on the elimination of health disparities and building effective partnerships to improve the health of disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Wisconsin.

Our Four Functions

  • To increase government and community awareness of racial and ethnic minority health issues and state-specific health disparities.
  • To provide recommendations for equitable allocation of public health resources to improve the health of minority populations.
  • To provide technical assistance to partner agencies in the development of policies to eliminate health disparities in Wisconsin.
  • To collaborate with state, tribal, local and private sectors in the development and implementation of culturally and linguistically appropriate health promotion and disease prevention strategies.

Isabel Gomez-Bassols, psychologist and host of the Univision show "Doctora Isabel, el Angel de la Radio." The Spanish language translation was done with support from The Endowment. The animation was developed to inform and educate the millions of Spanish-speakers who might be affected by provisions in the Affordable Care Act, either now or in 2014 when health insurance coverage expands. The English-language version can be found online.

Photo of Fire and Rescue team As part of efforts to strengthen our nation’s preparedness and resiliency, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) conducted the first nation-wide test of the Emergency Alert System on November 9th at 2pm Eastern Standard Time. The national Emergency Alert System is an alert and warning system established to enable the President of the United States, if needed, to address the American public during emergencies.

In addition, the Office for Civil Rights has released two new videos created by FEMA to support the outreach efforts of our disability community partners.  The video has American Sign Language (ASL), open-captions, and is voiced throughout. A Spanish version of the message with open-captions follows.
