MMHI: Prohibited Items at Maximum Security Units

The following items may not be brought in at visitation with maximum security patients.

  • Weapons (firearms, knives, explosives, or facsimiles of these items)
  • Sharp items and potential weapons (such as: hacksaw blades, razor blades, scissors, etc.)
  • Any item made from glass
  • Any metal item (without prior unit staff approval, call the unit)
  • Electronic surveillance devices
  • Rope or electrical cords exceeding six feet in length
  • Toxic substances, including cleaning supplies and laundry soap
  • Devices with external recording capacity (such as: cameras, turntables, records, etc.)
  • Flammables, including paints and paint thinner, lighter fluids, lighters
  • Matches
  • Medications (over-the-counter and prescription)
  • Extension cords, three-way plugs
  • Alcohol, mouthwash, or similar preparations with alcohol content, materials for making alcohol, drugs, illegal substances or drug paraphernalia
  • Belts exceeding 2 inches wide
  • Belt buckles exceeding three inches by two inches or weighing over four ounces
  • Sexual products, appliances, or literature depicting sexual behavior with minors, aggressive or coerced sexual behavior, sadomasochistic behavior
  • Incense or candles
  • Reading material that describes making of weapons, explosives, or other devices which may be used in an escape
  • Suspenders
  • Batteries (except as given to unit staff directly)
  • Excessive food (as defined by unit staff)

  • Tape players
  • Musical instruments
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Wire

TRAC 1

  • Pens (felt tip pens are allowed)
  • Pencils
  • Pipes

PTU

  • Luminescent ink
  • More than seven plants (in patient's possession)
  • Any form of electronic transmitter

MTU

  • Plastic bags or trash liners
  • All belts

  • Personal clothing
