Dengue virus is not spread by mosquitoes in Wisconsin. However, cases of dengue in returning travelers are reported every year. Global dengue virus activity has increased recently. As a result, more dengue illnesses have been identified in Wisconsin residents who traveled to a country where dengue is spread.

A total of 38 dengue cases were reported among travelers in 2024, the highest number of cases among Wisconsin residents in a single year. All of these illnesses were in people who had traveled to an area with local transmission of dengue.
