The treatment unit at NWC is known as the EXCEL Program. The EXCEL Program helps children and adults (males and females) with an intellectual disability and a co-occurring mental health or behavior disorder acquire a level of skills for personal independence. These individuals have treatment needs that cannot be adequately met in the community.
Staff provide behavioral and psychiatric evaluation and treatment, medical services, person-specific training, and vocational programming. These services are provided by highly skilled staff trained in proven, effective treatment methods for this population. Staff works with the client, their family and/or guardian, and their community support system to develop an individualized plan for treatment. Clients receive intensive assistance to reach the goals in their treatment plan. This approach helps the client reach their full potential and facilitates a successful return to the community.
The EXCEL Program has 22 beds. The bedrooms are semi-private or private, depending on the client's needs. The apartment building has an activity room and common areas for clients to enjoy the company of others and group activities. It features views of the historic NWC grounds, including the Chippewa River as well as woods and wildlife. This setting and the nearby community of Chippewa Falls provide many opportunities for work and leisure experiences.
