Highlighting the needs and contributions of first responders

Registration is live and locations have been announced for the Wisconsin Overdose Prevention Summit! 

This free event is intended for first responders and public safety personnel and will provide education on evidence-based overdose prevention efforts. 

Only individuals working in law enforcement or public safety can register to attend. This includes:

  • Emergency medical services (EMS) and fire departments.
  • Police officers and sheriff's deputies.
  • Other public safety professionals, including dispatchers, corrections staff, and probation and parole.

Register for the Overdose Prevention Summit

To provide information to as many people as possible and to allow people within a region to network and develop relationships with others working in overdose prevention in their area, five one-day summits will be held across the state. Space is limited so register early to secure your spot.

  • Western Region, Stoney Creek Inn and Conference Center, Onalaska: April 14, 2026, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Northern Region, Lake View Conference Center, Wausau: April 15, 2026, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Northeastern Region, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Emergency Operations Center, Oshkosh: April 16, 2026, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Southeastern Region, West Allis: April 22, 2026, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
  • Southern Region, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Madison: April 23, 2026, 9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

This event is being organized to help attendees connect with others in overdose prevention in their area. We encourage you to sign up for the summit in your area, but this isn't required. Choose the date and location based on your availability and the needs of your area. View a map of the regions here.

The summit will equip participants to:

  • Understand the principles behind evidence-based overdose response and identify ways to implement this response in daily work.
  • Learn how fatigue and burnout can influence officer-citizen and provider-patient interactions and how to address these factors to improve health outcomes for first responders and the communities they serve.
  • Learn about Naloxone Leave Behind Programs.
  • Learn about deflection and diversion efforts and their impact on reducing fatal overdoses.
