Falls Prevention
Falls are one of the top causes of injury in Wisconsin and the United States. In 2023, unintentional falls were the cause of over 132,200 emergency department visits, 14,800 hospitalizations, and 1,900 deaths. Adults over 65+ experience higher rates of fall-related hospitalizations and deaths than other age groups. Falls are also a common cause of injury among children as well, frequently causing emergency department visits among children under 17. Unintentional falls are also a common cause of traumatic brain injuries among young people, especially children less than one.
Preventing falls looks different for different age groups. See the pages below to learn more about falls throughout the lifespan.

Kids are often on the move. Taking simple steps around the house and during sports and physical activity can help prevent fall-related injuries.
