Governor's Health Equity Council
Delivering actionable solutions to help Wisconsin become an equitable place to live for all people
On March 19, 2019, Governor Tony Evers issued Executive Order #17 (PDF), establishing the Governor's Health Equity Council.
The purpose of the council is to address the various factors that exacerbate health disparities by creating a comprehensive plan to achieve long-lasting and equitable health outcomes for all Wisconsinites. The plan will address health disparities based on race, economic status, education level, history of incarceration, and geographic location.
Governor's Health Equity Council Report
The council released its full report “Building a Better Wisconsin: Investing in the Health and Well-being of Wisconsinites" on January 30, 2023. It includes the 20 recommendations adopted by the council. It also has robust data revealing the state of health equity in Wisconsin and an examination of the social determinants of health that contribute to differences in health outcomes documented across the state.

- Race in the Heartland, Wisconsin’s Extreme Racial Disparity (PDF) – uses data from Race in the Heartland, written by Colin Gordon. Race in the Heartland is a joint project of the Iowa Policy Project, Policy Matters Ohio, COWS, and the Economic Policy Institute that reviews the racial inequality in the Midwest. It is an update of COWS’ series on the disparities between white and black Wisconsinites.
