Medicaid Member Experience Council
The Wisconsin Medicaid Member Experience Council (MMEC) is a new group of people with experience using Medicaid. It’s a space to help make it better. MMEC ambassadors will connect with decision makers to tell us what’s working, and what’s not.
Work with Wisconsin Medicaid to solve problems and make improvements
Nobody knows Medicaid better than our members. Together, we’ll talk about how Medicaid coverage is working, what gaps there are, and how we can fix them.
Additions and changes to covered services
How services work together
Quality of services
Who’s eligible, how enrollment works, and renewals
How members and providers get information
Access to services
How Medicaid works for everyone, no matter their culture, language, and identity
Major issues affecting health services
Members are the experts we need to pave the way for change
Member voices matter! Council ambassadors will include:
- People who have Medicaid benefits right now, or their caregivers
- People who had Medicaid benefits in the last two years, or their caregivers
Anyone with a ForwardHealth card has Medicaid.
We want the MMEC to represent many perspectives from all parts of Wisconsin. We will select a small group of ambassadors who represent different experiences.
More about the council

MMEC ambassadors also work together on one or two special projects during the year. The MMEC will choose these projects together with help from Medicaid staff. - Talk with Medicaid staff
MMEC ambassadors will talk with the Medicaid Director and staff. They’ll also get updates, have discussions, and ask questions. - Participate for three years
The Medicaid Director selects the MMEC ambassadors. Ambassadors participate for three years. We hope to have our first meeting around July 2025.
Frequently asked questions
No, we are unable to pay council ambassadors for regular meetings. However, we plan to tackle one or two special projects each year that focus on specific topics at separate meetings. We will coordinate with community-based organizations on these special projects, and will be able to compensate participants for their time. We will also pay them back for things like gas, bus tickets, and other expenses they have to get to the meetings. We plan to do the most in-depth engagement with council ambassadors during these projects so they get paid for their time and expertise.
