Wisconsin Overdose Prevention Summit
Highlighting the needs and contributions of first responders
Save the date for a series of one-day overdose prevention summits coming to your area! In April 2026, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services will host a series of summits on evidence-based overdose prevention efforts for first responders and other public safety personnel. By providing overdose information that is tailored to first responders, we will be able to improve health outcomes for all people who are on the frontlines of the overdose and polysubstance use epidemic.
Registration details and links will be posted to this webpage.
The summit will be free-of-charge for attendees. Only individuals working in law enforcement or public safety can register to attend. This includes:
- Emergency medical services (EMS).
- Police officers and sheriff's deputies.
- Other public safety professionals, including dispatchers, corrections staff, and probation and parole.
To provide information to as many people as possible and to allow people within a region to network and develop relationships with others working in overdose prevention in their area, five one-day summits will be held across the state.
- Western Region: April 14, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Northern Region: April 15, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Northeastern Region: April 16, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Southeastern Region: April 22, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Southern Region: April 23, 2026, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Note: Exact locations will be posted soon.
The summit will equip participants to:
- Understand the principles behind evidence-based overdose response and identify ways to implement this response in daily work.
- Learn how fatigue and burnout can influence officer-citizen and provider-patient interactions and how to address these factors to improve health outcomes for first responders and the communities they serve.
- Learn about Naloxone Leave Behind Programs.
- Learn about deflection and diversion efforts and their impact on reducing fatal overdoses.
More information will be posted to this page as it becomes available.
