Causes of Infant Death

This table provides the International Classification of Diseases codes used to define the Wisconsin Interactive Statistics on Health (WISH) categories for causes of infant death. WISH uses the ICD-10 titles for both the ICD-9 and ICD-10 categories. Categories are not always precisely equivalent between ICD-10 and ICD-9, but combining both sets of codes into a single database permits analysis of infant mortality across years.

Analysts examining trends for multiple years that include both ICD-10 (1999 and later) and ICD-9 (1989-1998) codes should read Trend Analysis Caution and Comparability Ratios (PDF, 129 KB).
