Learn about the role and responsibilities
CNAs work directly with residents and licensed nursing staff to provide essential care and support. The work is hands-on, active, and centered around helping individuals with their everyday needs.
A CNA may help with:
- Bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Eating and drinking.
- Walking, transferring, and repositioning.
- Responding to residents when they need assistance.
- Observing residents and communicating changes or concerns to nursing staff.
- Providing companionship and support throughout the day.
Successful CNAs also rely on skills such as:
- Communication and active listening.
- Dependability and attention to detail.
- Patience and adaptability.
- Understanding and responding to the needs of others.
- Working as part of a health care team.
CNA positions may also offer a variety of schedules, including day, evening, night, and weekend shifts, depending on the employer.
